A Little Bit of History….
The Castle Hotel has a colourful past. The Grade II listed building was built on the site of Lincoln’s Roman Forum in 1852. Starting life as a school, the building has also served as an evening institute, parish rooms, army cadet centre, Sunday school, riding school, occupation centre and repair workshop, before becoming a hotel in 1979.
The building even served as a lookout station in WWII, spotting German planes and warning the many RAF stations around Lincolnshire of incoming attacks. You can still see the scars today, and bricks on the top level of the hotel have been rendered over when repairs to bullet holes from German machine guns were made after the war.
Today, the building has been completely renovated inside, but still retains the charm, features and character of its many previous lives.
